What is the CAA?
The CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) is the UK’s aviation regulator. They set the legal standards for drone operations to ensure public safety. As a drone operator, I follow all CAA rules — including airspace restrictions, flight height limits, and privacy laws — and I hold the necessary certifications to fly commercially.
Do you need permission to fly?
It depends on the location. For most commercial shoots, I’ll carry out a full site assessment and secure any necessary permissions or clearances — especially if we’re flying near restricted zones, people, or buildings.
How high or far can your drone fly?
Legally, drones in the UK must fly no higher than 400 feet (120 metres) and remain within visual line of sight (up to 500 metres). I always follow these limits in accordance with CAA regulations. cinematic visuals with purpose.
Can you film indoors?
Yes — I can film indoors if the space allows for safe flying. I’ll assess the location beforehand to ensure it’s suitable and safe for an indoor flight.
What’s your weather policy?
Drone flights are weather-dependent. High winds, rain, or poor visibility can delay a shoot. I always monitor forecasts and will reschedule at no extra cost if conditions aren’t safe for flying.
Can you fly over Birmingham city centre?
Flying over Birmingham city centre is exciting, but it requires careful planning, and wouldn’t be straight forward. Areas like Grand Central or The Bullring are heavily congested, so I’d need to carry out full risk assessments, notify relevant authorities, and would require special permissions depending on the exact location. Safety and legal compliance always come first. It’s a lot more paperwork – but it’s not impossible.
